1. Students study, Teachers teach, Librarian keeps a track of books issued and returned by students, Cleaning staff maintains the cleanliness of the school building, etc.

2. Yes, there are children who are not going to school in the picture. One of them is serving tea at the tea-stall; some other children are playing under the tree.

HOUSEHOLD WORK

Question 1:

What work does Deepali do in her own house?

Answer:

Deepali cleans house, washes utensils, cooks food for her brothers and sisters, takes her sisters to school, listens to radio and takes her brother to their father.

Do you also do household work? If yes, what?

Answer:

Yes, I help my mother in arranging things properly at home. Sometimes, I also chop vegetables.

Question 3:

Besides household work do you do any other work at home? If yes, what?

Answer:

No, apart from household work, I do not do any other work at home.

Question 4:

My grandmother worked a lot in her childhood. She used to help her mother in cooking and keeping the home clean. She learned cooking so many dishes from her early childhood days.

My grandfather used to help his father with the activities at the farms. He also learned cooking the basic dishes. At times, he used to cook for the entire family.

Question 8:

You had written about the work you do and the work done by your elders in their childhood. Is there a change?

Answer:

Yes, we can see a lot of change. Children these days need not work a lot like the earlier days. Most of the women are working these days.

Question 9:

Deepali had to leave school to do household work. Find out if there are any children in your neighbourhood who are over five years and do not go to school.

Answer:

Yes, there are such children in my neighbourhood who are over five years and do not go to school.

Question 10:

Talk to any two children and find out why they do not go to school.

Answer:

First Kid (Aayu): As her family is very poor, along with her family members, she too needs to work for a living.

Second Kid (Satya): Satya is an orphan. For a living, he needs to work at the tea stall. He also distributes newspapers in the morning.
