Chapter 3: Textual Exercises

Q1. Write the products obtained when Na2SO4 is hydrolysis. i.e., reacts with water ?
Ans:- When Na2SO4 is hydrolysis. i.e., reacts with water it formed sodium ion and sulphate ion as products.
                   Na2SO+ H2O  -------->  2Na + SO4

Q2. Write the formula of the acid and the base from which the salt NaCO3 is obtained ?

Ans:- The acid is carbonic acid (H2CO3)
          The base is sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
                    H2CO3 + NaOH NaHCO3+ H2O
                    NaHCO3 + NaOH Na2CO3 + H2O.

Q3.  PH of samples of HCl and acetic acid are 2 and 3.5 respectively. Which one is a stronger acid?
Ans:- HCl is stronger than acetic acid. Since Lower pH value is the stronger acid.

Q4. Fe(OH)3 is less soluble in water than Ca(OH)2. Which one is a weaker base?

Ans:- Fe(OH)3 is the weaker base.

Q5. Device an experimental set up to show that dilute hydrochloric acid is a good conductor of electricity.
Ans:-
